Human Rights Advancement!

WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 — The House approved a bill this evening granting broad protections against discrimination in the workplace for gay men, lesbians and bisexuals, a measure that supporters praised as the most important civil rights legislation since the adoption of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990 but that opponents said would result in unnecessary lawsuits.

Finally! So now the House has finally realized that everyone deserves equal rights! What did it say in the Declaration of Indepndence again? “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal…”

And let’s take a look at the Constitution, at the 14th amendmant – “No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

City Council Adopts Environmental Motions!

Kudos to our City Council for officially doing two environmentally friendly things – voting to do a greenhouse gas inventory, which is the first step to becoming a “Cool City,” something they have yet to agree to do, and voting to come up with a strategic plan to make more environmentally conscious decisions! You can see the agenda from this page, and the video and minutes should be coming to that page soon. Yes, yes, I know that I don’t believe in global warming, but I do believe in making environmentally conscious decisions, and if this is how the City Council is going to do it, this is how they’re going to do it.

Ladybug News

They were certainly hither-ing and thither-ing at my house last weekend. Every corner of my living room ceiling is now filled with a score or more of ladybugs, as tightly crammed as the mosh pit at a Green Day show.

Plague of the Ladybugs

To all of you who live in my city, I’d like to let you know that the ladybugs are back. Or rather, they’re coming back. And they’re coming back in huge numbers. An entire wall of my school was covered in the red-and-black insects, and many had found their way inside by the end of the day. Will they stay? Will they leave? I don’t know. Insectophobes, beware! Insectophiles, rejoice!
